Monica Romo, MSW, LSW received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Millikin University and her Master’s Degree in social work from Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC. Monica currently works as a Behavior Specialist within a school district in the suburbs. In this role, she helps teams problem solve maladaptive student behavior through the lens of communicating an unmet need. All behavior is a form of communication, and Monica teaches educators new strategies to support students who do not respond to traditional methods of behavior management. The goal is for students to feel safe, respected and supported; not controlled. She is a certified trainer for CPI and Ukeru, which are trauma informed crisis prevention/intervention programs utilized in schools. The cornerstone of these programs is to build positive and trusting relationships with students to help them feel cared about as a person.
Monica has 18 years of experience as a social worker with children and adolescence, including foster care case management, youth care facilities, therapeutic day schools and public schools for students with autism, emotional disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. She holds an additional certification in Polyvagal therapy, and is passionate about teaching others the importance of regulating the nervous system in order to feel safe and help regulate your emotions and behaviors.
In her free time, Monica enjoys participating in musical productions at the park district, traveling, and spending time with her family and pets.
